Things to Do

Whatever your age, skill level, or interest, there are countless opportunities for fun, adventure, cultural experiences, educational activities, or a thoroughly relaxing getaway awaiting you in any season throughout the incredibly diverse and spectacularly scenic Central Cariboo area.

Discover distinctly beautiful wilderness landscapes on one of several navigable trails either by foot, mountain bike, canoe, on horseback, snowmobile, or a number of other exciting alternatives. Immerse yourself in the splendour of the outdoors on a camping trip. Pitch your tent, sing around the campfire while roasting up some marshmallows and get a good night’s sleep under the stars. View indigenous wildlife and vegetation on an educational eco-tour, or become more informed about the area on an industry, agricultural, or geological tour. Get a taste for the cowboy lifestyle on a working ranch or learn about our First Nation’s heritage and the history of the Cariboo Gold Rush. Try your hand at some rock-climbing, experience an exhilarating white-water rafting excursion, fish world renowned lakes, rivers and streams, treat yourself to a day at a spa, golf one of the areas fine courses, or try one of many pleasurable winter activities like cross-country skiing or snowmobiling.

Numerous festivals and events occur in several communities within the Central Cariboo region throughout the year and you are more than welcome to attend and participate. The multi-day Williams Lake Stampede with the second largest professional rodeo in Canada is truly a magnificent and fun-filled spectacle for the whole family. Soak up some culture and get ready to be entertained! Enjoy delectable cuisine at one of the region’s many cafes, pubs and restaurants then head out on the town to try your luck at the casino, take in some live music, a local theatre production or the latest blockbuster at the cinema. There are several art galleries, shops and farmer’s markets where you will find a delightful array of products by local artisans. Stop in at one of the region’s museums for a captivating peek at life in the Cariboo then and now and be sure not to miss the British Columbia Cowboy Hall of Fame and the brand new, magnificently constructed Tourism Discovery Centre in the City of Williams Lake.

Enjoy yourself! There are virtually endless possibilities for you to explore in the Central Cariboo that will thrill, amuse, delight and rejuvenate your spirit. Be sure to bring your camera along, as there will be many amazing sights and fond memories you will wish to share and always treasure.
