Biking, Hiking & Riding

An expansive network of trails cover the entire Central Cariboo region and are ideal for those who wish to discover diverse landscapes of wilderness; forests, alpine meadows, cacti and sagebrush strewn desert terrain, sweeping grasslands, stately mountain vistas, numerous lakes and waterways, deeply etched canyons and geological wonders. Spanning a wide range of skill levels, the trails are easily accessible or more remote depending on your preferences and how much time you have in your itinerary.

Hiking proves an invigorating and enjoyable way to do some spectacular sightseeing in the area. Guided day trips, overnight and multi-day excursions are available and can be tailored to meet your requirements. The pleasantly scenic and easygoing 12 km River Valley Trail is a must! It follows Williams River all the way from the City of Williams Lake to the magnificent Fraser River and also accommodates people on bikes and horseback or cross-country skis and snowshoes in the winter.

Now considered a mountain biking hot spot, Williams Lake and the Central Cariboo area are strewn with exhilarating world-class, multi-use trails that set adventurous spirits ablaze with adrenaline induced joy. Youth, group and women’s rides leave regularly from Williams Lake, and the city’s enthusiastic cycling community hosts several events each year. Access to hundreds of trails of varying skill levels will appease anyone searching for the perfect ride.

Grab your cowboy hat, pull on your boots and discover the area the traditional way, on horseback! With a rich history of ranching, the Central Cariboo region is right in the heart of cattle country and home to many present day cowboys and cowgirls. Numerous local guest ranches provide you the opportunity to saddle up your mount and spend a pleasant afternoon, day, or multi-day excursion riding the range, discovering backcountry trails or participating in a real cattle drive.

Whether you are a beginner or an expert in your field, the hiking, biking and horseback riding adventures available to you in the Central Cariboo are virtually inexhaustible and guaranteed to appeal to all five senses and then some!
