Winter Activities

With an almost magical aura about it, the Central Cariboo is a stunning and adventure filled winter paradise! There are plenty of winter activities to participate in, all the while exploring pristine wonderlands of snow-laden forests, meadows, frozen lakes and vast expanses of rolling white hills.

If you are a downhill skier or snowboarder, just south of Williams Lake is Mount Timothy Ski Hill, a facility with spectacular terrain, a triple chairlift, and 33 runs accommodating beginners and experts alike.

Strap on some snowshoes and discover the Central Cariboo back country in all its’ winter splendor or venture out onto a lake and enjoy some ice fishing which is a favorite local pastime. Cross-country skiers can delight in exploring an expansive network of trails that exist throughout the area. Not far north of Williams Lake is Bull Mountain, with 36.5 km of regularly maintained trails, and 3.5 km of night trails lit up until 10 pm each evening. There are also wonderful cross- country touring opportunities at Gavin Lake and Horsefly each with many more kilometers of idyllic winter landscapes and groomed trails. Though these are the most well-known trail networks, it must be mentioned that you can ski virtually anywhere within the Central Cariboo region.

A more exciting winter activity has you whizzing through the powder past panoramic vistas of winter wilderness on snowmobile! From groomed trails to mountain terrain, the sledding enthusiast will be exceptionally pleased with what they will find here in the Central Cariboo. Accessible from the community of Likely, nestled in the Cariboo Mountains, is the illustrious Yanks Peak Trail with approximately 80 km of well-marked and groomed trails for intermediate riders or better and even some extreme sledding opportunities to keep your heart firmly pounding in your chest!

There are countless other ways to have a great time in the snow, but there is no more beautiful a place in the winter months than the Central Cariboo region and it is a beauty that should not be missed.
